On Television: Tuesday’s Sonoran Living Segment

After a relaxing three-day weekend, I hit the ground running delivering a live television segment Sonoran Living, ABC15 in Phoenix, a show I appear on regularly.

First, I woke up early to blog, accompanied by my morning cup of Joe in a new mug my friend Kim sent me. I graduated from UW-Madison, in case you haven’t figured that out yet. Go Badgers.

Have you ever gone about your morning at a leisurely pace, only to discover that you miscalculated the time you needed to leave the house? No, I wasn’t supposed to leave the house by 10 a.m., I needed to arrive at the station by 10 a.m.! Fortunately I figured this out early enough, which left me with an hour and 15 minutes to get myself camera-ready, rather than the usual 2 hours I prefer. I know, it’s a little disgusting, but what can I say? The more TV I do, the more obsessed I get. On the other hand, I am completely comfortable going days without makeup if I’m just working at home or running errands. Two extremes.

With my limited time, I tossed Grape Nuts, walnuts, half a banana, and milk in a bowl. I also scavenged the hard-boiled egg Scarlet barely touched for breakfast.

After the segment, I divvied up the food for the cast and crew, and saved this half of turkey and cheddar sandwich for myself, along with a few potato chips.

And half a mango (client) diced up during the demo.

Have you ever tried Metromint water? The company sent me some samples. At first I didn’t really care for it, but the PR rep told me it should be enjoyed ice cold (I originally just added some ice cubes to a barely cooled bottle). I can appreciate this, like champagne. It’s all-natural and a nice break from plain water. I’ve especially enjoyed the chocolate mint flavor.

I brought along this banana for a snack after running errands.

Fortunately, a bag of roasted pumpkin seeds lingered in my purse so I ate those too.

Once home I was hungry again due to my tiny lunch. I made guaca-salsa by stirring nearly half of an avocado into salsa, and paired it with filafel chips. A home-brewed half glass of orange-flavored black tea provided my afternoon caffeine fix.

I followed that with the remaining half chocolate chip cookie from The Westin Kierland.

For dinner my honey reheated the flat-iron steak grilled the night before, and we turned it into tacos with roasted portobello mushrooms, hot sauce, and packaged guaca-salsa. Our side dish was roasted summer squash. Usually, I would opt for whole ground corn tortillas, but the only fajita-sized tortillas we had on hand were white. How did those get there, anyway? I sipped half a glass of red table wine.

Free Giveaway! Metromint invited me to send a free sampler to three of my friends. I will draw three random names who comment here or on my Facebook page, letting me know whether they have tried Metromint, and if so, telling me their favorite flavor. Comment by July 15, 2011 for a chance to win.

I have never tried Metromint but it sounds interesting. A nice break from my usual water (since I don’t drink coffee or soda at all).

  2. Serena says:

I just tried Metromint for the first time this past week. I tasted the chocolate, berry, and orange – all very delicious, but the orange mint was my favorite.

I started following you on the eatlikeme blog off – I’m so glad you are continuing to post your meals on Facebook. I’m a vegetarian, but I have gotten lots of great breakfast ideas!

      Hi Serena,
Wow, what a coincidence! Orange mint….ooh, I haven’t tried that one! Will do. Your words are positive reinforcement for me to keep up with the blogging – thank you so much.

I have never tried Metromint water, but would love to check it out. Is it flavored with artificial sweeteners? My body doesn’t always agree with those. I have been using the new Crystal Light Pure because I drink soooo much water since I have been trying to cut out soda and other not so good drinks. Water can be plain and boring, so I welcome any new suggestions. Thanks for posting Michelle 🙂

      Hi Ann Marie!
Nope, there are no artificial sweeteners in Metromint water. The water isn’t sweet. The flavoring is more like an essence. Kind of like if you add lemon to your water – it’s flavored but not sweet. How do you like the Crystal Light Pure? I haven’t tried that yet.

I drink lots of water a day.Sometimes i fast too. I love to try this water.

I have really enjoyed all of the Crystal Light Pure flavors that I have tried. They are two servings per packet and are meant for the 16.9 fl oz. bottles of water. Sometimes I’ll just add half a packet to one bottle of water and it just lightly flavors the water.

I have tried Metromint water and the Chocolate Mint is my absolute favorite!! I’ve tried the orangemint as well, and thought it tasted like a tic tac! The lemonmint is good too! My husband thinks they are weird, but I love them.

      Kelsey,
LOL about your husband – I think ours may think alike:) Thanks for commenting.

    1. Michelle Dudash says:

Zerin, oh my goodness, what a fabulous idea! I will admit, I had to Google “what is a shopping haul?” I thought maybe you lived in a foreign country! Now I get what it is and love the idea! Okay, next time I go shopping, I will have to do that. Thank you so much!

I have tried the metromint waters. I liked the orange the best as it reminded me of a tea I like. (without the sometimes weird herbal after taste).

    1. Michelle Dudash says:

      Nina,
I’ve got to try that orange flavor. You’re the second person who likes that best!
      Thanks for stopping by.
